∣a−a∣=0≤1⇒R|a - a| = 0 \le 1 \Rightarrow R is reflexive. ∣a−b∣=∣b−a∣⇒R|a - b| = |b - a| \Rightarrow R is symmetric. ∣1−2∣=1≤1|1 - 2| = 1 \le 1 and ∣2−3∣=1≤1|2 - 3| = 1 \le 1, but ∣1−3∣=2>1⇒R|1 - 3| = 2 > 1 \Rightarrow R is not transitive. ∴R\therefore R is reflexive and symmetric.
